The first thing to do when anything electrical is causing problems is to make sure the battery connections are absolutely clean, free of corrosion and tight. This includes the connections at the starter and the grounds. Many electrical issues can be solved by this. Next step is to make certain the battery is good and fully charged. Never assume that the problem can't be the easy obvious stuff, because many times it is.
