04 Ford Ranger won't start

Asked by elecranger Sep 19, 2016 at 12:09 PM about the 2004 Ford Ranger 2 Dr XLT Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was driving on freeway when theft light and oil
light both came on and within 30 seconds the
engine died. Luckily I was in the slow lane and was
able to pull over safely. I checked the oil level, it
was good. Car power turns on but the engine won't
turn over.

I dont know about theft light but oil light will also come on when the oil pump fails. Did you try resetting the codes? It usually at least re starts when I do this. I had to do this for a while on one car I had, till I could get it fixed, the check engine light would come on and would not start. If you do not have the code scanner, get one from the parts store or unplug the battery for 12 hours (sometimes that works). If it restarts it is a code, if not it may be the oil pump and that is not good (possible motor lock up) good luck
