1986 Ford Bronco starting problem

Asked by MrChu May 12, 2015 at 05:18 PM about the 1986 Ford Bronco XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

when starting vehicle it continues clicking without starting even after turning it off.  I have to disconnect the battery cable to get it to stop - new alternator, new battery, solenoid good, also mechanic installed a bypass for solenoid but that's not helping either.  Any suggestions?

Not sure I can help...but I will suggest. I had a problem on my 86 bronco where the starter was staying engaged after the engine started. After some trial and error the guy found out that I was missing a diode that was supposed to stop any errant voltage from going to the starter relay. It only takes a very little amount of voltage to keep it engaged and ever since he added the diode it has been fine since. And this had gone on gone on for over a year. Hope this helps.
