Did you check to see if the fuel pump is working when the key is turned on? You should be able to hear it.
Hello, im having the same issue, i can get mine to start if i put the key in the run position and plug in the battery. It will restart a few minutes later but when the anti theft light goes out it wont start.
have had our F150 5.4 XLT towed to a shop three times for the same reason.. F150 would not start.. Turn the key.. and it sounded strong.. like it should start.. good electric.. starter sounded great.. but wasnt getting any fuel.. would continue to try to start until the key was turned off.. **Thursday - First tow - it got to the shop and sat for 4 1/2 hrs before they went out to look at it.. started right up.. It then started up just fine over the next few hours.. drove it home.. **Friday - Second tow - went out the next day to go to work.. dead truck.. would try to start but same thing.. nothing from the engine.. towed back to the shop.. they came out immediately.. would not start for them.. they replaced the fuel modulator.. it started.. we drove it home thinking it was "fixed".. Did not use the truck for the weekend.. **Monday - Started fine - drove to work.. Got off work.. Dead truck.. SAME THING.. turn the key.. starter engaged.. but not the engine.. no fuel.. WTF **Monday night - third tow - towed to branch of the same shop.. **Tuesday - truck starts just fine.. all day.. no issues.. I'm thinking - I'm not crazy.. **Wednesday - truck starts just fine.. Go pick up truck.. Starts fine for the next week.. Literally.. One week.. Following **Wednesday - dead truck.. tries to start.. but nothing from the engine.. Read forums for possible answer.. Change out a $3.49 fuse.. (#27 - 2amp fuse) -- Success!! --
Just had the same thing happen to me this morning. Found this post within 5 minutes. Thought - if only it could be that easy. Popped the fuse box - sure enough #27 is fried (2009 F150). Throw in a replacement and starts right up. Thanks for the tip.
Thank You Thank You ..... I had been having the same exact problem and this worked !!
That's it ole number 27 cooked don't know why fuse came out in pieces put in replacement fuse would not seat all the way my guess is that contacts have welded themselves shut or there is a piece of the burnt fuse in there but none the less cranked right up
We had the same issue, the 20 amp fuse from a box of fuses is longer than the Ford 20 amp fuses. They make a box of replacement fuses for Ford F150.
Thank you same here #27 cooked. I replace it and had to clean out seats because it came out in prices. Do you know what or why the fuse poped? I have a few trips this fall and do t want to rick it breaking down again? Thank you
What year f150 are you guys talking about with the #27 fuse? I have a '99 f150 that cranks but won't start, everything is working, fuel pump, fuel pressure, spark and compression ok but still won't fire and it's driving me nuts but on mine #27 is the fog light something orother and it's fine
I’m so glad I found this post after a couple weeks of intermittent issues thinking it was related to my starter I found it bizarre but if the truck was cold or cooled down for a couple hours it would always start right up. Wasn’t until I realized everything would crank I started looking at fuel issues and hoped it wasn’t the pump in the tank. I found this post and sure enough the tiny 20A fuse was melted but not blown.
Having the same issues (crank but won't start) with my 2012 F150 Lariat. Fuse looks fine. Truck would start after the tow to dealer, so they couldn't pinpoint any issues. After a week at home, the truck would 'die' again. Wait a few days, it would start just fine. Dealer suggested maybe ignition switch in column. Replaced ($900! P&L) Eventually considered (and replaced) the crank sensor ($350 P&L). Worked like a charm for 3 months, then one morning.... crank but no start again. No change. (Seemed like it was taking an extra second to start the previous few days, but perhaps it was my imagination. Not sure.) Towed back to shop. Would not start initially for him. Got a soft code "fuel level low", yet I had just put in 15 gallons about 100 miles prior. (17mpg*15gals=255 miles). Next turn of the key, the truck started. No codes remained. Truck starts every time mechanic starts it during past 5 days. Arg. He checked fuse 27. No burn, good fuse.
Starkman14 did you figure out the problem mine is doing that same thing with the low fuel light. Stats with starting fluid fuel is getting too the rail jujitsu not in the engine

Same problem here. Drove home in my 2009 F150 Lariat (about a 20 minute drive), stopped off to get beer (inside for 2 minutes), came out and the truck would crank but not fire. Checked under the hood to pull fuse 27 (had no pliers so had to improvise with a flathead and a key lol) and the fuse came out shot to hell. Pulled another 20 from the accessory panel to use in it's place since I was only 3 blocks from home and it was snowing out and she fired right up. Thank you for the post and the quick fix!
I have a 2013 F-150 35,000 miles. Same problem, would turn over and not fire. First mechanic said it was my fuel pump inside fuel tank. $750 later I had replaced tank, and worked fine for 2 weeks. Fed up by this time, so researched further online and found a posting that recommended spraying the key with a dry silicone spray and inserting the key multiple times, the try. Bingo, it worked for maybe a month. I sprayed it again and same results. Has gotten worse and worse as for as close intervals of time, but am convinced is either key or switch. Hope I can get a mechanic to listen without going off half cocked. I have even dealt with a certified dealer.
2009 F150 supercrew. Won't start. Find this. Sure enough #27 fuse fried. Pulled it out and part of the fuse fell below the slot. Hoping this isn't a issue. Replace fuse, truck starts but wo't stay running. It just sputters and dies. Guessing fuse was a symptom of something else.
Just had my 2013 F150 in for same problem. Seems like Ford has had this problem going on from 2009 through 2014. There is a service bulletin addressing this. They even came up with a kit (EL3Z 14293 A) $29.88 on ebay, $40.58 from Ford that relocates the fuse in the fuse block and replaces the fuse with a cube shaped 20 amp. 116012 miles on mine. Ford customer service said no recall for this was issued. Out of warranty. SOL. $382.40. My truck shut down while I was driving. With this many instances, one would think it's time for a recall.
My 2012 F150 had same problem. Sounded strong but wouldn't fire. The starter would continue to spin and wouldn't spring back when I released the key. I had to turn it to the off position to stop the starter from spinning. Does anyone know whats causing the fuse to burn? Is this a fire hazard? Thanks, Ben
Had this same thing this morning on my 2011 F150 SCrew v8. Thank you internet folks for saving me hours of diagnosis!
Dad's 2007 F-150 had intermittent startup issues for about a week. As the resident mechanic in the family, I couldn't find the problem using OBD2 diagnostics, checking sensors, etc. Found this thread after about 30 min of trying, sure as shit, #27 was fried extra crispy. Quick replacement and starts right up.

2013 F150 5.0L 58K miles. Same exact issue this morning—with no warning and has not happened before. Cranks well with no fire. About a month ago, I had the fuel pump replaced at my shop and also had it in the dealership for a recall (don’t remember the number) to fix the “sudden/abrupt shift into 1st gear”. Thinking it was a fuel or computer issue, I called my shop and dealership. Both said to have it towed in but it would be my expense if their work wasn’t the issue. Before calling for a tow, I decided to give the old Google University a try. Found this post right away and gave it a look. Sure enough, #27 was fried and came out in pieces. Purchased the “low profile” fuses (5 for $3), slapped it in and the truck started right up. Thank you for saving me lots of time and money! Live in Phoenix but it was quite cold this morning when it wouldn’t start. I’m no gearhead but could that have been a common variable? Also, any answers on the root cause of this issue? Should I expect the fuse to blow again? Thanks!
Fuel pump driver module went out on mine, had no fuel pump noise when key turned on. I did have #27 fuse burnt once before but this time was the driver module it is located on top of cross bar over spare tire.hope this helps
You guys saved me from towing my 2013 F150 to the mechanic. The #27 20amp fuel pump fuse was blown. I replaced it and the truck started right up.
my husband has a 2013 ford f150 flex fuel and has changed the fuse (which did not seem to be bad) and the fuel pump and it is still cranking but not starting up, what else could it be?
Thank you, 2 hours from home #27. Again Thanks!!!
This forum was such an amazing help! We were oit ice fishing in the middle of Leech lake and the truck didn't start. Hitched a ride back to our rented cabin a #bigrockresort. Super bowl Sunday no vehicle and 200 miles from home...i came across this forum...got a ride back to the truck from this amazing resort owner...replaced the fuse and it started right up! Thank you all and go Chiefs!

Having same issue, but not fuse #27 on my truck, any other ideas?
I’m having the same issue.. 2011 f150. Happened day after I bought it, cranked 3 times and it fired, second time happened Sunday.. found a thread about the neutral safety switch on the shifter.. hit the tow haul button seeing if that was it and then tried cranking it, it fired up. Thought that was it. Drive home 3 hours fine. Go to start it today and it’s doing it again. This time the button isn’t fixing it and my check engine light is on. Checked the fuse 27, it’s not bad.
I have a 2012 ecoboost and I killed it in the driveway a couple of days ago and the next morning it won't crank. The starter spins good. I took the fuel line lose from the high pressure pump, lots of gas. I checked and replaced fuse #27. I replace the big sqaure start/run #7 fuse. Still not cranking. Help please.
I have a 2006 Ford f-150 and I shut my truck off in the garage and the next morning it wouldn't start so I read all your question and answers and went to work on checking my number 27 fuse. It was totally fine so I crawled under the truck near the spare tire in fact on the rear axle drivers side, Before I pulled the old Module off I had someone turn the key on to see if I could hear the fuel pump kicking on, And I could not hear anything so I assumed that it was either the Module or the fuel pump, so I pulled the two screws out with a 5/16 socket and removed the factory Ford Fuel Pump Driver Module and replaced it with an Advanced Auto Parts 590-001 sealed fuel pump driver module which cost $113.34 and took about 10 mins. to take off and put the new one back on. It started right up and is working fine. Thanks for all the good mechanics posting stuff to help my old shade tree ways. rand
My 2014 Ford F150 would not start. Cranked over just fine but no FIRE. Replaced the Battery for $140.00 Bucks. Worked for 2 weeks. Same problem. Pulled the #27 fuse. Truck would turn over just fine but no Fire. Put a brand new 20 Amp Fuse in #27 and it cranked on the first try. I fixed my truck for $3.22. I have a new Battery I probably did not need. It was 6 years old anyway and I don't have to worry about it.
same issue on 2007 f150. replaced fuel pump driver module under above the spare tire. it would not fire. i have replaced crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensors but no luck. my #27 fuse is for seatbelt. any help?
My 2013 with the 3.7 cranked but wouldn't start. It had been starting a bit rough for a week or two when cold, but then worked fine. Turns out the truck was flooded. I had to remove fuse #27 until the truck burned the gas out of the cylinders. Then put the fuse back in and it started up fine. Mechanic says he would replace spark plugs as they are probably original with 162,000 kms. on them. Hope this is the cure.
#27 was my problem also! I have a 2013 f150 that cranked but wouldn't start. Thank you guys!!
Same situation on my 2011 F-150 with a Cayote 5.0 Replaced 20 amp fuse in #27 and it fired right up.

Thank you so much guys! I inherited my daddy's 1999 F-150 after he passed a couple of months ago. Runs great and only has 81,300 miles on it. Just used to pull a camper. Intermittent starting...went to Autozone and they guy suggested using Sea Foam fuel additive, but not real interested in helping me troubleshoot...probably because I am "just a girl"! Anyway, got it started for the first time in a week...let it run for 1/2 hour. Drove it around another 15 minutes..Yippee...NOPE. Turned it off, and now it won't start again. Thanks so much for the info. I am going to try the fuse. Called a mechanic and over the phone was already told that it needed a new fuel filter, and possibly a starter? Arghh.

THANK YOU so much. #27 fuse fried. Replaced it and it started right up.
Thanks everyone! Same story on mine, filled up with gas and she had a hard time starting back up, was chugging and then when i turned it off, she wouldnt start again. Full crank but just wouldnt fire. I replaced the 27 fuse and the #8 (Fuel Pump Relay), still cranking, no start. Went onto the Fuel Driver Module, replaced it and still cranks with no fire. I guess its onto the fuel pump next? I can hear the pump go. Wondering if you all have any other troubleshooting tips before replace the fuel pump?
I finally figured out what was causing my "crank no fire" issue, timing chain popped... Huge expense for a truck I literally just purchased. I sure hope for your guys' sakes that your diagnosis is anything but the one I got. Good luck!
Similar issue but my #27 fuse looks fine? Thoughts? I have heard the Fuel Pump Driver Module?
This thread helped alot. Thank you. But if you just replace the fuel pump relay fuse(no.27) you might end up with the same problem down the road. That spot is the issue. Not the fuse. You need to use the kit. Its too expensive for what you get but cheaper than a mechanic. Anyway, get the kit. Throw the poorly thought out instructions away. They make it seem harder than it is. Look up on youtube on how to do it. If you have any experience with a solder gun or know someone who does it's not a hard fix.
2014 Ford F150... My husband & I were leaving the gas station, got onto the hwy and heard a very loud noise. The truck wouldn't move, luckily we had enough momentum to get off the road most of the way. Turned the key and it wouldn't start it just made the continuous 'Starting noise' . We checked/reset the battery, checked cables etc.. nothing was helping. So we called a tow truck (the hwy we were on is very dangerous, on a hill + lots of traffic so we didn't want to be out there long) while we were waiting on the tow truck I googled for help & thank god I found this forum. The first one I came across! Y'all are life savers. It was that da*n fuse..luckily that was all! I can't thank you all enough you just saved us a ton of $$
I have same issue with my 2007, I have replaced the starter, spark plugs and fuel pump driver module, I read this and my fuse isn’t blown either, some days it’s starts up fine then sometimes it starts I get to where I’m going then nothing, won’t start back up
Same with mine. Thank god for the internet. #27 fuse was burnt out. Replaced and I’m good to go.
Same issues some days it starts fine others i start it and it shuts right off having to restart some instances multiple times and now even after changing battery in remote alarm may sound when u turn forward ignition like its alarmed and other times exactly opposite on 2005 f150 along with some times i will be driving along and all the guages drop and speedometer stops working i may get a clicking sound. It has happened more so when i accelerate quickly but not necessarily. Then their are times when along with those things shutting down the radio will turn off not even a time can be seen on screen, the window and door locks wont work and i get a flicker from guage lights and headlights. An once in a great while i have heard a loud click or scracth from speakers almost as if it were a home stereo and while in use someone would grab cord and just unplug it. I can be cruising down freeway at 80mph and all guages stop everything stops working EXCEPT the Engine and fan are still running then no longer than 1 min.and 20sec.and everything is on but may do this several times in one journey. Any ideas. And dash keeps saying check charging system. And i have battery alternator and starter are all good. One code i do remember is transmission overheat or something similar...please any input is better than no input. Thank you much\(*0*)/Wandamay
On mine yes seems fine i hear it kick on once in a while i have to listen more so than others. But fuel pump can't be why all power to electrical gauges, windows, doors, & radio act like dead or no power connected, while engine and fan are running fine 90% of time. Has anyone ever had this same issue? I know of one guy told me his ford ranger has similar issues but he just stopped driving it.
Thank you Thank you.. you saved me hours of time

You all are heaven sent in this forum. My 2013 F150 cranks but won’t kick over. Good thing I have a second vehicle to use to go pick up my wife from work at 10pm at night. After reading this forum in the parking lot waiting for the wife.. got home and pulled #27 fuse.. sure enough.. it was fried. I’ll hit up Autozone in the morning for new fuses and give it a crank tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Unbelievable. Never thought these 'easy answers' would apply to my problems. But, wow... it worked. 2013 Ford F-150 with 80,000 miles. Fuse #27 was fried, but apparently still worked intermittently. Replaced with new 20A. Problem solved. Thank you so much for sharing this info and saving all of us tons of time, money and frustration.
2012 F150 260000km I had same problem few months ago... just started again and sure enough 27 fuse broke as I removed it and was blown new fuse no issues now
2013 Ford XLT 4x4 - Had the same issue a couple days ago. Ran a scan on truck and propped up error code P0627 for the Fuel Pump Control Relay Module. Purchased this afternoon from Orielly's for about 50 bucks. Swapped out the old (right above the spare tire) and cranked right up. Hope this helps someone.
OMG, you guys are awesome. The one thing I didn't realize was that there are 2 fuse boxes, one under the hood and one inside the truck. Not a mechanic.. Used the spare 20 amp fuse from slot 27 inside the truck and replaced the one under the hood. So easy and saved me no telling how much money.. Thanks much!!

I had that same problem with my 2012 f150, has 125k on her right now. Cranked fine around 6:40 this morning, but heading to lunch I usually remote start... But instead of cranking it decided to honk at me. Right then I knew something had to be wrong. So I turned the key and the started turned, and kept turning, but never fired off. So instinctively I went to the forums and found the #27 fuse problem. Sure enough the fuse had blown. So I went to the cab fuse panel and pulled a spare 20A out and put that spare in and now I’m sitting in a cranked truck typing this out. If you stuck around and read this, I appreciate y’all. Probably saved me a bit of money.

The way things have been going, never thought a fuse could be my issue...way too easy. I was about to call for a tow...but checked this forum first. And there it was...number 27!
I am also glad I found this post. Pulled #27 fuse and it looked ok, maybe a little discolored on the side, but the fuse did not look blown. Replaced it with another 20amp fuse from another slot and it fired up right away. Make sure you try a new one. As with my visual inspection, it was not good enough. Whole fix cost nothing and took 5 minutes. BTW, when tried to start, could not heard fuel pump and the ignition when turning the key, wanted to stay in place as if it wasn't getting a signal to disengage. Thank your for all the postings.
My 2007 Ford F150 stalled on the highway. Towed it to the shop- $800fuel pump replacement quote. Took it back home. Found this forum. Bought new battery, checked all fuses with test light-a few were burnt but not #9(fuel pump fuse) #27 is for fog lights or some other shit. Still no go. Looked behind the spare tire and sure thing the fuel pump driver module was tost. Thanks again to this forum - bought a new one for $120 from Amazon. Made in USA one. 45 mins under my car and it seems working just fine. The guys might do it even quicker. P.S. I had to soak the spare tire lock in WD40 for a day and gently hit it with a hammer from behind in order to get to my spare tire. :-)

2013 F-150 5.0 crank and crank and wouldn’t fire...sure enough #27 fuse was fried. Cost $3!!!! Thanks guys
2014 F150 doing the same thing. Strong attempts to crank but no fuel to ignite! Changed #27 fuse, no help. The shop replaced the fuel pump driver module. So far so good.
Did anyone have there check engine light come on? Mine is on after putting in new fuel filter air cleaner now light is is and truck didn't start yesterday. Today I'm going to check the fuse wish me luck.
I was having similar problems as listed about being and changed Fuse #27 20 A and truck works great!
I have been having a similar issue however I only have the starting issue after I fill up at the pumps. It takes a couple of attempts at starting but once the engine is running I can turn it off and start again with no problems. Any thoughts on whether or not this is the same issue?
My 2014 F150 had the same problem last week. Went to start it and it cranked but would not start. Stranded me in a remote area. Then 1/2 hour later I tried again and it started. For the past week it had been starting fine. Good and bad though. I now had an intermittent problem that was going to strand me again. I found this forum this morning. Checked fuse #27 and sure enough it was burnt. Replaced it this morning and now I have peace of mind again! Thanks for solving my problem!

I’ve changed spark plugs, coil packs, fuel driver module, throttle body, and relocated fuse 27 to fuse 70 so it won’t burn out no more and still have the same problem when the trucks been sitting it won’t start unless I press on the gas for 10 seconds or it will stall
So which fuse would it be instead of a #27 on a 2007

Thank you to everyone! My new (to me) 2011 F-150 302 would crank and not turn over. Even after releasing the key, it would keep cranking. Couldn’t hear the fuel pump operate. After reading all these helpful posts, I just grabbed the tools and pulled #27. It was cooked to a crisp. Used the spare 20A from the interior box (also #27–go figure) and she fired right up. To Scott, who posted 10 months ago: to which kit are you referring? Hubs can weld, solder, and wrench on just about anything. We’d like to try a longer term fix as you suggested. Kelley Athens, OH

Replaced fuse #27 and relay #8. want to stress that Fuse looked fine. So not sure which one it was but it solved the problem. Thanks al.
Thank you my 2013 F-150 would also crank and not start. replaced fuse 27 with the spare inside passenger cluster (also #27) and it started right up.
My 2012 F150 XLT 5.0L with 180k miles had the same problem: cranked strong but wouldn't start. Based on this forum, I first checked the #27 fuse and it was fine. Then, I replaced the fuel pump driver module with a Dorman replacement (Part Number 601-225) from AutoZone for $58 USD. Truck started right up and has been fine since.

SAme issues as above, turns over great won't start! Was intermittent issue then finally died on side of road. had it towed to service facility. they didn't call me back as to when they could service my vehicle. Read these posts, literally fixed in their parking lot,yep #27 in fuse box under the hood (not inside kick panal fuse box). 70 cent 20 amp fuse!! I'm sure I saved a bunch of $$$$$
just found this. same problem. it has happened 2 times now over 3 weeks. battery is good and starter motor runs strong, but engine wont fire. in each case the problem went away after 45min to an hour. id start it up and it would be fine again. does anyone know why it would not work and then work again a short time later?
Thank you guys for pointing me to the #27 Fuel pump Fuse!! I just got off the phone with my dealer and it is a known issue and there is a $75 kit with at least $250 labor to relocate the fuse. So, I also called Ford Motor Co and filed a complaint. They should recall this. I encourage everyone who has had this issue to call and complain and get our $ back. 1 (800) 392-3673

Wow, thank you guys so much for the Fuse # 27 answer. I thought there was no way that the fuse to my fog lamps would fix my truck. In fact, it was a little brown, but otherwise looked ok. Boy was I wrong. After replacing it the truck started right up. Thank god I checked here before calling a tow truck. Thanks again!
My wife's key wouldn't start our 2014 F-150 5.0 V-8. Among other questions, I asked her whether her key fob opened the doors. She said "only if I get real close". We went and tried it with my key, and it started right up. Buying a new battery for her key fob right now.

Yep number 27, all burned up on one side, get dorman 926-034 fuse kit from amazon to move that location to another with larger fuse, 20 minute job
I've got a 2010 with These same symptoms. Put a new battery and replaced the burned up fuse yesterday. I had to burn off the excess fuel, then start it and let it idle for several minutes before I could give it any gas without it dying. Ran for 10 or 15 minutes yesterday just fine. Today crank, no start. Should I try the fuel pump drive module next?

I have the same story. Towed. Sat for 2 days at garage and then started. Has run fine for 6 months and today, same thing. Cranks but won't start. Thanks for the tip on #27 but my fuse was good. Replaced it anyway. Still no go. I'm going to let it sit for a day or two and hope it starts. If it does, I'm going to trade it off on something. Too bad too, I've had five or six good F150 with good luck.

2013 F150. I was having this exact same issue. My truck would crank but not start. The battery was testing fine and the starter was cranking fine too but the engine would not turn over. I went to google and came across this article. I pulled the 20 AMP fuse in #27 and the fuse was completely burnt. Swamped it out and the truck started right up. Thank you so much for posting this. Only cost $4 and avoided the headache of towing to a garage to get looked at.
2012 F150, 5.0, 158k - After filling up engine would sputter on initial start, but run fine and no issues any other starts - Yesterday, crank but no start. Check engine light on after letting starter cycle fully - Checked #27 (extra crispy) and replaced it, no joy and had to abandon overnight in parking lot - Today replaced fuel pump driver module and works like a charm! Thanks to everyone on this forum for saving me thousands of dollars in labor over the years!!
Thank you all for the forum thread. 2011 Ford F-150 Ecoboost with a stellar history of solid performance hauling horses, yesterday before the weekend horse show would not start. 2013 F150 112,000 miles. 5.0 motor. My wife’s car had a dead battery, so I charged it with the F150. I was able to get the car to start in a few minutes. A few hours later, I needed the F150. I was met with a cranking starter but no start. Thanks to this site, I found the burned out 27 fuse. A new 20 amp Fuse did the trick! Thanks a bunch!!! Come on Ford!
And yet ANOTHER fuse 27 :). SO thankful for this post. Saved me all sorts of grief. THANK YOU!
Thank you, I had this problem with my 2010 F- 150 and it worked, $4.99 for a whole pack of fuses instead of who knows what for a mechanic to diagnose, repair and maybe change a part I didn’t even need.
