1986 GT: Engine missing or cutting out for a second under load.

Upon light acceleration the engine cuts out.  With no real sophisticated on board computer we can't seem to
find the problem.  Anyone else with a similar problem and hopefully a solution?  104,000 miles and 5
speed.
