As a former Ford Service Manager I remember a few horror stories about Escape's being dinghy's behind RV's. On more than one occasion the transmissions would get burned up. I live in Phoenix and there are a lot of RV'ers flocking here in the winter so it would'nt be unusual to see it a couple times a year come cold season.

I also found this link for towables - If you notice it says No for the Automatic Transmission on the 4wd Escape http://webcontent.goodsam.com/DinghyGuide2003.pdf
