2013 Nissan Sentra SL problems

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi all, hope you are doing well In these scary
times.
I have a 2013 Nissan Sentra SL with 94k
miles. Lately it’s been having trouble starting
where if I would let it sit for a week(I often
don’t drive for days at a time) it will struggle to
start so I have to charge the battery. This isn’t
a big deal, but a few days ago I was driving
home and I live out in rural Texas with no
neighbors for miles and while I was driving the
rpm meter started acting possessed so I
stopped and turned it off, and when I turned it
on it didn’t go. This is a big deal because I
was stranded for well over an hour with my 1
year old which is not fun. I finally got it to work
which was not easy lol. Today I was pulling
out of my car port and the rpm meter did it
again. I immediately stopped and turned it off.
I’ve heard that these cars have transmission
issues but I’m praying that it’s not that
because I can’t afford to get it fixed! I’ve
always liked Nissans but if I can’t trust it to
not break then I don’t know if I will get a
Nissan again sadly.
Any help is appreciated!!!!!

Welp the transmission actually died today. Driving on the highway with my daughter and it stopped responding to the pedal and quit accelerating. Sadly I think it’s out of warranty so I’m just going to get a new car! Any suggestions for a new car under 20k??

Thank you! I actually went and spoke to the dealer a few days ago, and it would cost 2800 to replace it... I absolutely love this car but I feel it is not worth it when I could get a newer car, and even if I do replace the trans who knows what else is going to go bad with it.

Sorry, I meant to say 3800. I’ve looked at a couple SUV’s today actually and now that I’ve been in them I’m not going to get another sedan. Thank you for the recommendations.

Well, I got a new car! A 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 S!! I love it so far! Everything feels so quality and German. I definitely do not regret my decision.
