Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2013 Sentra that is losing power at both highway speeds and
during city driving, especially up hill. It’s not a CVT problem because the
RPMs drop when this happens. There is no engine service light. I put a fuel
system cleaner and octane boost in the car with premium fuel and it did not
occur during the entire tank. It seems pumping the accelerator peddle will
temporarily correct the problem but the situation is dangerous when in
traffic.

Do you have a damaged tail light? If you have a leaky tail light assembly, it may be causing problems that interfere with your brake system which is necessary for proper operation of your CVT. Replacing the tail light may fix your problem. Or check if your brake lights function properly. If not, this could indicate a faulty brake light sensor switch (located above your feet on the brake pedal)...

Change the tail light or fix it (As in use a silicone sealer to seal it)?

Yes, change your tail light. A good used one is not very expensive and this is your safety we are talking about. It would be a shame for you to turn in front of incoming traffic and have your car lose power during the turn. Replace the cracked or damaged or leaky tail light. Sealing it with silicone may trap moisture that's already inside the tail light. Or let in moisture you cannot prevent. The moisture is what causes the problem since it interferes with the brake light electrical harness and the car thinks the brakes are being applied.
