unfortunately im not sure what models contain that transmission however cvt transmissions are garbage they used them in the past and stopped because they fail so frequently the only reason i can think of that they started using them again was because of fuel efficiency, you can get unlimited gear ratios due to the design but its also extremely weak and very prone to failure. One of my newer customers has had two cvt transmissions put in his 2012 Nissan Maxima and its less than 100,000.
Nissan's were great cars and trucks 20 years ago. You may need to go Junk Yard hunting and I am sure you will find one somewhere; however, in the old days, you could buy a decent transmission for pennies on the dollar. Look on eBay; there are after market suppliers there. Call some local junk yards, and if there is a local mechanic that specializes in Nissan's, then he is your MAN! As an example, Rickie Diehl in Huntsville Alabama of Diehl Nissan is hated by the local Nissan Dealership. Might be worth the phone call to see what Rickie has to say!

There is a big class action lawsuit against Nissan because of the transmission but I think by the time they get around to me the car be gone but I want to see this problem get fixed for other people because it's unfair that we spend so much money on a car and it only Last 5 Years for god sakes I got a 63 Impala that runs better than this 2013 Nissan Sentra it still has the original transmission with 100k I even have a truck a 1990 Chevy and that's has 190k and no issue with transmission I can't even remember the last time I change the fluid. They lost my business for ever. I would never buy a Nissan ever again maybe if they warranty it and be nice about it I'll consider buy another one from them but they act like it's not their fault and wipe your hands clean with it.

I was looking on this website call copart they sell total out car. I found one a 2013 with 30k miles hit on the side and the bid is $280.00. If I win it I'll take out the transmission and sell the car for parts and make some money. The motor can sell for $500 or more. It have full interior, front clip, rear of the car in great shape. I have to get my friends with a dealer license to get it for me or can I get a newer car Nissan Sentra. Do anybody knows what year Nissan transmission are the same. Like a 2013 is it the same on 2014 ,2015,2016 or 2018
Hello I have done research on the same issue the problem is the coolant once the car is driven for a long period the transmission gets over heated that it doesn’t accelerate any more and it burns out the transmission oil. I’m getting an external coolant for the transmission install on my 2007 this will fix that issue.
NG1992, did that fix the issue with the CVT?
my wifes car is doing the same thing so how or what do i do to get it fixed the car only has 100,000 miles on it
@Rotaryengfreak, I have the same problem as you! My Sentra is 2013 and i have found the same transmission of sentra 2016 but im still confusing if they are the same and can be swap?? let me know please.
We had the same issue this summer with my sons 2013 Sentra that I co signed for. It had a complete transmission fail at 65,000 and Nissan refused to cover it. We had no choice but to have it repossessed because of the hardship it caused. Now, 4 months later they sent a letter stating the car is covered by the extended warranty! I'm calling them about this and if they aren't willing to pay the $7501 we owe on the car and fix both our credit reports than I am obtaining an attorney and suing them for what's owed, what my son paid in payments, towing expenses and emotional damages for the stress and anxiety it caused us both! Neither my son nor I will ever own a Nissan again!

I have a 2013 Nissan Sentra that has 80,000 miles on it. My cvt transmission has also gone bad. I was quoted a replacement cost of $4700. I intend to file a report with Nissan's Customer Service department because surely they are well aware of this issue by now! I plan to demand a new transmission or an equivalent car. If I do not get justice, I too will be filing a lawsuit against the company. I am still paying a monthly note on this vehicle and should not have to relinquish my car to repossession due to this costly repair. I drive everyday and this has been an extremely stressful inconvenience!
GuruBGQ5Z and Clevelandlady37, have you financed direct from Nissan or was this from a used car dealership?
Clevelandlady37 answered 5 years ago
I got my Nissan from Mike Bass Ford in Sheffield, OH. I thought I was getting a good deal on a good car. I have owned other Nissans in the past which were very reliable. But I have had nothing but problems out of this car.
Well these comments are very disturbing and I really expected better from Nissan. My son owns a 2013 Sentra and last night was very scary. While driving his car just quit accelerating, starting jerking, and gears slipped. We found out today I was the transmission. The dealership said it was out of warranty and would cost about $4500...This is a known problem with these cars and no matter how old the car if it's the same problem, they should fix it for free. I know they try to sell extended warranties, but who thinks they would need one on a five year old car with 45,000 miles on it. Is there anything that can be done?
Blankpanic answered 5 years ago
@Shae No unfortunately once they break thats it you either need to replace it or have it rebuilt but because of the design it will fail again.
My 2013 Nissan Sentra just reached 65k miles and I noticed a change in the sound of the car as I accelerate recently. About a week ago, it started struggling to accelerate. Took it to the dealership and they say I need a new transmission. 5k that I don't have, thank you very much. I bougth this car 3 years ago at 21k or so. I've never in my life had to replace a transmission with such low mileage. Filed a claim with Nissan to see if they'll help if not cover it completely considering this is apparently a common issue and it's only 5k outside of the warranty... Not holding my breath on this one. Took it in on Thursday.. they said they would have an answer by Monday. Ok sooo am I gonna get stranded on the side of the road?? What happens if I'm driving on the highway (most of my commute is on the hwy 60+mph) and it just stops working?! Glad to know the safety of your customers is not your concern. I won't be buying a Nissan again.
Our 2013 Nissan Sentra transmission need replacement and recently got out of warranty. We purchased it in 2013 brand new from a Nissan Dealer in Mckinney TX. Last week, the car started making noises when shifts speeds. We took the car right away to a Nissan dealer for a diagnose. My husband was told that the car needs a new transmission, cost $4000 plus labour. My husband asked to be given the codes for the errors the computer was showing. The dealer rep. refused to give them to my husband. I took a day off from work today (04/23/19) for calling the dealer to ask again for the codes because we paid $140 to find out exactly what was wrong with the car. They finally gave me these codes: BSM- C1704 , C1707, C1708, Airbag- B00A000,B142A16. Then I called Nissan @ 1.800 .Nissan1. I spoke to Obi, agent #7319589 and he gave me a case number. He told me that I will receive a call back from one of their rep by the end of the next business day. I would like to know if I have a lemon case and what my rights are. Thank you, M
I also have a 2013 Nissan Sentra with 41k miles. 2 years ago I faced the same issue, my transmission had to be replaced. Luckily I was still under warranty and did not have to pay out of pocket. TODAY, I was stuck at a red light with the SAME issue. I will be calling the service department tomorrow, and it better be covered! I only have 41k miles on the car, and the transmission was supposedly replaced 2 years ago. This does not make sense!
I heard that California and the related lemon law, Nissan's warranty will be extended to 10 years, but I am in Texas, I want to know if Texas Nissan has the same protection.
dealership said the cost may be several t'housands, ieven could buy another sentra.
I have a 2013 Nissan Sentra. Cvt transmission failed at 60k miles. Had a warranty that covered it. Also had a $2700 defective sensor the warranty covered. The sensor wouldnt let me put car out of park, I couldn't even use my vehicle. Then they showed me a way to rig it with a pen they gave me until I could get back. Sketchy. I told them 4k miles before warranty was up that my transmission was acting up again. They ran test said it was nothing and that is the way the car drives. It is sensitive to wind. I complained the rpms were going crazy and also moving while using cruise control. It didnt look right and car was acting like transmission problems. They sent me home. 8 months later at 116k miles my transmission has failed a second time!!! I owe money on it still. I called Corporate, glad I seen all these complaints.

We leased a 2014 Nissan versa from Nissan dealership in Visalia ,the second day I had the car the transmission went out, they replaced it wit a new ,then two months later they had to replace the radiator as well, here last night the transmission went out AGAIN ,and it's on its way to a shop now,but Nissan won't give me a loaner til it's repaired? I'm sick and have lots of medical issues that require medical appointments that I can't get to now because of Nissan's bs
Our Nissan Sentra 2013 also have the same issue with less than 100,000 miles. We took it to Tranny mechanic, they said its not the tranny. We took it to another mechanic they could not find what's wrong it with. NO engine check light on the dash board. They said to bring it to the dealership which I'm for sure they will say its a tranny problem. I guess we're all stuck with this problem.. I would like to know how we can have nissan fixed this issue without a cause from our end
My husband and I also have a 2013 Nissan Sentra 70,500+ miles on it, we noticed that our car wasnt “shifting gears” as it should. At first we thought it was the air intake, maybe even need for an oil change, did all that and it still was driving funny. I thought maybe it was from having ECO on so we stopped using it, got a little better, then suddenly when trying to excellerate from a stop our RPMs would shoot up to 5-6 and then drop to 4 and get stuck till we come to a stop again then the car will jerk and be fine as long as we slowly accellerated, oh and forget about getting on the highway, if you do over 50 the car slightly jerks, you can feel the transmission slipping in and out of gear so to speak. But we took it in as soon as this happened, Jakie Cooper Nissan in Broken Arrow Oklahoma had the car for almost 2days and finally at the end of the 2nd day(5:30pm they close at 6) called and said its our transmission and it will he $4,500 to replace and a week-2 weeks without a car. Or they can try to rebuild it for $3,500 but if they open it and the chain or belt inside is in worse shape then they expect we would have no choice but to replace with 100%brand new. Since its our only car after selling them our Elentra 2months ago, thats not an option plus $4,500 is an impossible price. Of course our warranty ended in January! We asked about Nissan options and they said they had nothing to help with it. Obviously this is a HUGE issue! No way all of us have the same year make and model car with the same issues and all have “lemons”! Nissan really needs to do something! Anyone have a link or anything to the classaction lawsuite previously mentioned here?! Also do any of yall think it would do any good to file a complaint with Nissan Corp on this issue!?
Hi my 2013 Sentra with 57,000 miles stalled on me without any prior indication that it had any mechanical issues. No check engine light, nothing! Dealer stated my transmission is blown. I called corporate and they escalated my complaint and was promised by the agent that they will contact the dealer on Monday. After reading so many horrific stories about Faulty CVT transmission and Nissan not owning up, I have a feeling my car is done! No way in hell am I paying $4,000 for a new transmission to go bad in another couple of years.

I have 2013 Nissan Sentra and 154000 km the transmission failed now I have to pay over a $4,000 to fix it. Nissan has a horrible cvt transmission. Never again buying Nissan
The poorest of transmissions, agreed! The 1st lasted till 110,km, the Nissan dealership couldn't locate in Canada, nor in Japan, with an unknown estimate of a replacement tranny delivery time. Bought a used at Aamco, the second tranny lasted 2 weeks, Aamco replaced this tranny under their warranty. Next the retaining clip hold the axle shaft in the tranny failed, (perhaps because of Aamco reused and fatigued the retaining clip on both tranny replacements, (chances are!) Too much money spent to unload this lemon. Correct never buying a CVT again. BTW ....took a UBER shared ride, the another passenger had a failed CVT as well and could afford to fix it! BAD TRANNYS ...STAY AWAY

My 2013 nissan senta failed yesterday for what I believe is transmission issues as well. I am at about 82,000 miles. If anyone knows of any class actions can you please share. My car will be looked at tomorrow.
The transmission in my 2013 failed with only 90,000 miles on it! It has the recall done on the transmittion in January 2019 and now this! I called the Nissan office and waiting for them to call me back Monday. We need to file a class action lawsuit.

There was a recall in 2019? I got a quote to repair the transmission from a mechanic shop at $2600. Then I took my car to Nissan and after some arguing they agreed to replace my transmission for $900. With everyone on here we should file one.
Same issues. I dropped off my Nissan Sentra 2013 for a $150 diagnostic in San Diego due to RPMs going crazy, especially on the highway they would shoot all the way up to 5- 6. I had to let go of the gas pedal in order for it to readjust. Nissan called and said I was 800 miles out of my extended warranty and needed to replace the transmission at a cost of $4,500. I said that was ridiculous for it to fail at just 100k. I had owned Sentra previously and had gone way past 150k miles with no issues. They are trying to work with me and are doing a transmission diagnostic ($150 additional) to see if they can force the 'check engine' light on so they can retrieve the codes. This morning they just called and asked me to pick up my Sentra and drive it on my own for up to 200 miles to see if the check engine light comes on and then go back. It makes no sense. They want to give me my car back when it is having issues instead of giving me a fixed car. They did waive the transmission diagnostic and I am only paying the $150 for the original diagnostic which was supposed to go towards the total cost of repairs. This is so sketchy. What happens if my car fails while I have it back in my possession? Even the tech who test drove it said it was shifting violently. A class action lawsuit does need to occur so they can recall these faulty transmissions!
Got this in the mail today! Looks like there might be some hope to help us with these crappy CVT transmissions!
Felicia456 answered 5 years ago
I had the same issue and was forced to have Nissan replace the CVT transmission. They did offer to cover 80% of it but I was still required to pay over $900. My vehicle only had 66,000 miles there is no reason for the transmission to have gone bad so soon I received in the mail today that a class-action lawsuit was filed against Nissan for anyone else who had to pay out of pocket for the repair. Go to SentraVersaCVTSettlement.com to file your claim.
Our transmission just went tonight. 2013 but we bought it's at 106,000 miles. If the other warranty extension applied, we'd be covered, but we're not. WHAT THE HECK?? We don't buy Fords specifically for their transmission issue. This is unreal. Has anyone successfully gotten a replacement? The current class action still wouldn't help us. Something isn't right if Nissan can get away with this many issues to these transmissions.
To All: I had my Nissan repaired last two weeks ago and after a week I received a post card from Nissan Settlement Administration. They are extending warranty for the CVT or you can file a claim if you have paid for repairs on any Nissan Sentra or Versa Year 2013 to 2017. I sent in all documentation last week and once I received reimbursement I will post information here. If you need claim form or copy of the notice for Settlement Action let me know.
GuruHGGYJ - can I ask what your mileage was? Is this the first repair you had done?
In reference to my post above, I called Nissan Corporate directly and opened up a claim. They ended up replacing my transmission free of charge. If any of you are having issues, I recommend you call and open a claim. Now I am going to see if there is any way I can get my diagnostic expense refunded. Transmission has been replaced and car is running as it should! Good luck to you all!
Jessie, Car mileage was 90k. They say as long as you file the claim before Jan 30, 2020. Warranty extension by 24 months or 24k miles which ever comes first.

I have a 2013 Nissan Sentra and have had the tranmission replaced 3 times in less than 2 years. The transmission just went out AGAIN3 weeks ago and every mechanic I've called are hesitant to work on it when I tell them the make and model. The previous time I have gotten it fixed, the transmission goes out right after a year. I will never by another Nissan vehicle.
I also have 2013 Sentra. Same transmission issue. Vehicle has all the above me toned issues before it transmission broke down altogether in the middle of highway. It was a big safety issue and thanks to police patrol who came in a minute to support us from back side from eventual possible collision. Any ways I term Nissan Sentra as a piece of junk. Its standing in my house since month .the amount of replacement cost is now equal to the vehicle price after repair. Request to get together and have lawsuit file against Nissan in Canada so that this is recalled if not then I will not spend a single dime ofer this garbage vehicle. I also have the 2013 Nissan Sentra, with just over 105K miles. It has all of the issues listed by everyone else and was dangerous to drive. I took it to the dealership who made me aware of the CVT re-programming "campaign", but that didn't fix it. They told me nothing of the class action/extension of warranty, etc. They wanted 4k to replace the transmission so I went to another transmission repair center and paid 3k. It was then that I learned the history of problems with this vehicle. I called and filed a claim only to be told that it didn't apply to my vehicle because it was outside of any extended warranty period that had been granted to other Sentra owners. Seriously? What a piece of junk....especially knowing that the transmission placed in it will eventually have the same issue. Crappy product, crappy customer service and no more Nissans in my driveway!
We have the same issues with our Sentra. Junk. Need to file a class action against Nissan
Same here, having issues with nissan sentra 2013. Mechanic said it was the transmission. I bought this car in April of 2013 . I was at a red light turning left when light turned green, car pull like it loss power to accelerate. A day after that, I tried turning on my car and it Powers off when attempting to drive the car. This is BS. I'm supper upset especially when it's your only car you rely on and struggling financially.

Same old, same old here- 2013 with 87,000 miles. Transmission diagnosed. Called Nissan directly and they gave me the settlement website. Disgusting. But do I pay the thousands to get it fixed and hope I get my money back? Never again.
We just got our 2015 Sentra back from the dealer with a new transmission after a ling battle with Nissan consumer affairs. Call them start a claim and take it to the dealer to have it diagnosed. Hopefully it throws a code for a faulty transmission. That's your proof. If no code they back out of the deal. Happened first time we took it in at 60,000 with a shutter. Now at 105000 total false and it shows a code. Nissan paid 60% of the cost. 40% cost us 1,500.00. Worth a shot.
Same problem here, I have a 2013 Sentra, been trying to fix transmission issues for over 8 months. Seems to be so many transmission problems that you can not find a good replacement. I will never own another car with a CVT transmission, and will probably never buy Nissan again.
We bought a new 2013 Nissan Sentra back in 2013 for a reliable car for him to use for college and back and fourth. last month it let him sit at a busy intersection in our town, he called a tow truck, paid to have it towed to our garage where it was diagnosed as transmission. we then contacted consumer affairs with Nissan and was ran around by a representative named Kate who would never call the right numbers back; a month later car still sitting at the garage she told our son that they would more than likely help with the replacement in some way but it would need towed to their dealership, he paid once again to have the broken car towed to another town to the dealership to have the exact same computer analysis that it is the transmission. The consumer affairs called him and said sorry we cannot help you. AFTER, this KATE said they would. WTheck. We have been out of a car for over a month, paid for TWO tows and TWO diagnosis, now we will be out $4000 for a transmission that I am reading above will only go out again over 60k like this time. We need to come together and file with the Better Business Bureau and make a case. My other son has a 2015 Sentra that we bought new then as well, is this also occurring with that year? We have a 2006 Sentra we bought new and it is still humming right along and doing wonderful this is the reason we thought reliable. Now I wonder if my 2019 Pathfinder will break as well.
Nissan is a poorly made car. I had the transmission replaced with a re- manufactured unit 26 months and only 17,000 ago. It cost $4000. Its bad again and the dealer #CarrNissan would not even discount the second trans mission at all. The didn’t even offer me a key chain.... Car Nissan has no integrity and they do not care about doing right by their customers. Go some where else if you can or expect to be conned.
2013 Sentra NISSAN extended the transmission warranty to 7 Years / 84000 all over the U.S. and in California to 10 years 120000 miles! Why only in California, this transmission almost costed my stepdaughter her life. Yet 1 payed $1100 to have the transmission fixed at the Dealer with only 85,500 miles Nissan would not help. 6 days later the exact same thing happened and now they want to charge for a new transmission.
Omg! this is unbelievable..... I purchased a 2013 Nissan Sentra maybe about a year ago.... I think around 90,000 miles didn’t have any problems at first ,but now at 110,832 miles I just found out from transmission shop I had to pay 3500$ for a remanufactured transmission from nissan. Luckily I always save money! This is some bs how in the fuck are they still in business. Then to make matters worse my warranty is 6 months 12,000 miles. What kind of warranty is this bro? No way, I’m going back to Toyota or Honda. When warranty gets closer to the end I will sell this piece of shit and won’t ever buy nissan again. I can try to file a claim ,but I bought the car from a personal owner and I’m sure they will say there’s no warranty if I try to call. God bless us and I’m down to stick together with you all. We deserve better products if we’re spending our hard earned money.
I see a few people have said the 2013 sentra warranty being extended until 10 years, 120,000 miles in California. I haven't seen this anywhere else. Can anyone verify this, or was it just hearsay?

Hey everyone! I finally received a check in the mail from Sentra CVT settlement. For those who filed you should be receiving a check soon for the cost of the repair. I receive the full amount $980 which is what I paid out of pocket. It is horrible that Nissan continues to sell these CVT transmissions knowing it is an issue. I will never buy Nissan again nor will I recommend it to anyone.

Hi, I have Nissan Sentra 2013. I bought the car from private party (clean title) and the mileage was 80000. After 85000 miles, I had some issues and local mechanic said it was transmission and AAMCO confirmed the issue and replaced the transmission which cost me ~$3000. Now, after exactly one year and three weeks (just 92000 mileage on it), I got the same transmission issue and AAMCO said that can not replace the transmission because Nissan only gives one year warranty for their transmissions. I am an graduate student and I could not spend another $3000-4000 to replace it. Can anyone suggest ideas to replace the transmission?

We have a 2013 Nissan Sentra. There was a recall on the trans and we took it in just before out of warranty. Gave it to my daughter in Florida. It has 100,000 miles on it. and sits in her driveway for almost 2 years now that the trans went out again. New battery and tires right before the trans went out. When I go down to visit I may just put a large poster of a lemon on it so all that see it in her driveway know not to buy Nissan. They don't honor their work. So it sits in the driveway.
