Coolant fan

Is the coolant fan supposed to run when the
car is started or just when the temperature
rises

If electric fan, you probably have a coolant temp sensor that tells the computer what is going on, temp wise. Some makes and models if you turn on the ac, the fan may run? You can use jumper wires off the battery for voltage and ground to the fan wiring connector, if it runs, sounds like the fan is ok. I'd probably use a 20 amp fuse on one of the jumpers, just to be safe. Any applicable trouble codes?
