Rim refinishing

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I would like some advice on the best way to refinish the original Fuchs rims on my 1984
944. Originally these were white with the polished rim. But have been repainted to make
the Arctic White Pearl that the was painted. The rims have a lot of pitting that I can't
remove with rim cleaners or polish. I was toying with the idea of using 1500 or 3000 grit
paper and wet sand them. Would this damage them further?

There are some detailed DIY tutorials on how to refurbish Fuchs wheels on some Porsche sites and also Youtube. It is quite tough work though

Thanks Andy. I spent about an hour tonight working on a rim. Started with 400 and worked my way up to 800 grit wet sandpaper. Then I used some rim wax to buff it out. Attached is the final photo. I would have liked to add more but was unable to. Not a bad result. But there is some pitting still evident. I'm going to redo them and start with a 220.
