When was the coolant last changed? Thermostat? I believe the water pump and timing belt interval is 60k. What is the mileage? Is the water pump original? Is you AC working? A clogged AC system can cause temperature issues.

I'm having the same issue, same year and model. I have 165k miles on it and the timing belt was changed a little under 2 years ago. My AC doesn't work 100% well as it goes cold and warm and doesn't block out the smells from the outside. And my coolant is leaking from the Passenger side of the engine but cannot pinpoint the source since the view is blocked.
