How to find old vw parts

Asked by GuruTTCNV Jun 19, 2018 at 10:02 PM about the 1987 Volkswagen Cabriolet Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1987 VW Cabriolet.  I am looking for fuel filter which has been very
hard to find.  It is no longer produced and vw has indicated that they have
none available in any of their warehouses.  It apparently was only used in vw
/Audi specific models and was only used in for a short period of time in their
cars before moving to another part.  It is vw fuel filter part number
533201511A.  How can I locate this...new or used?

Thanks...it looks like the correct part...it says that it is out of stock. Have you used this place heritage parts before and do things cozme in stock frequently or is it always “out of stock”. Did you see that it was in stock before? I emailed them and asked when it might be in stock. Thanks for the answer. This is the first place that I saw that had the correct filter! Very hard to find part.

No I've never had a VW of that vintage, it had originally said IN STOCK so that's odd... i may have sent the wrong link =s I'll check again in a couple hours but I saw that alot of guys were making an adapter out of brass fittings to replace the filter so they could drive their cars.

Okay so the link to the page said in stock but the page itself says out of stock..... ive read of several possible solutions but the best by far is to have one made from stainless steel and add an inline filter. A reputable fabrication shop could handle that if you took in your old one as a template and a good filter to use would be one from a 98 golf/jetta with a 2L engine. You wouldnt ever have to worry about the unit again (its a surge tank btw) and you could easily replace the fuel filter when required. Hope this helps and best of luck
