1984 Lincoln towncar wont start with new distributor and coil

Asked by johnsouthern Jan 13, 2014 at 07:44 PM about the 1984 Lincoln Town Car Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 84 lincoln Towncar was hard to start cold weather, the if it did start I had to let it idle for 3 minutes or if I backed  up and it quit it, would not start again. Finally it wouldn't start period. We found the distributor had broken pieces of the mount for the ignition module scattered throughout. So new ignition module , Distributor cap and rotor and coil and wtill will not start it smells like gas ....seems to flood... any suggestions on syncing the new distributor.? thanks  JOHN S Tulsa

It sounds like it may have damaged the pick up in the distributor. It is cheaper to buy another distributor than have the pick up replaced unless you do it yourself.

Maybe the timing is off or has jumped. Are you sure the distributor is in the correct position?
