modern new engine in my 1984 caprice

i have a 1984 caprice, i would like to replace my existing V8 305 engine with a new modern fuel injection engine with similar power for everyday use that will comply with my existing transmission and other major components. any  suggestions of engine type and brand. thank you

I would freshen the 305 and consider adding throttle body fuel injection to it. MSD and Holley make such units.

The throttle body is a good idea, Bob- a 20th century solution- but updating that car with modern systems would require a new drivetrain and electrical system- it can be done, but, by a pro- and expensive-

After all the time and expense in a project like that it would be a "resto- mod"- buy a copy of Hot Rod magazine and see how people are updating the old cars-

Spend the money and drop a 383 stroker motor in there and rebuild the 700R4 trans !!! Slap on some 295/55/R15 tire on old school Chevy rally rims and you’ll be styling & profiling as you leave the rest of the pack as the stop light !!!! I put a small block 400 in mine and rebuilt the same trans !! It’s coming together nicely !! I’m a old Chevy Man since my Dad bought his 1967 Impala coupe , Bad ass cars !!
