Oil leak

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have an oil leak in my mustang well at least I think
it is. Right between the oil can and my transmission
pan under the car is a part with what seems to be
like some plastic plug in type thing. It looks as if my
oil is coming out of there. I can't find anything
online explaining what that part is and how to fix it.

It is likely a rear main seal leaking especially if it is wet inside where the plastic plug goes. Repair will require removal of the transmission, torque converter, starter, and flexplate.
If it is the rear main seal the labor will be expensive, but the part is cheap like $20.00 or so. Which engine do you have, the V6?
Estimate is here at the link. This cost will vary by location and shop you are using....http://repairpal.com/estimator/ford/mustang/rear- main-seal-replacement-cost
Yes I have a V6. Thanks for the help. I'll check out the link.
Good Afternoon fellow mustangs, I came across this forum looking for common oil leaks in mustangs as my 04 (V6) has been leaking oil. (I took a pic of the mentioned compartment with the plastic plug) I'm trying to find the source of the leak but confirmed that, that was not the issue as this compartment is hollow and does not have oil in it. A friend of mine said that it may be valve cover casket, which I'm still trying to confirm. I would appreciate any feedback if anyone has any updated information of possible leads. Thank you in advance.
Those engines had bad valve stem seals and guides Ford has since fixed the problem or so they say
Does AT-205 work for Ford Mustangs to stop the oil leak? I’m thinking of putting that into my 1998 Ford Mustang and see if it works. I think it’s like a $12 bottle you pour in there.

Would also love to know the answer to this. We have a 98 v6 that currently has the oil leak issue but pretty sure it’s the rear main seal and I’ve watched videos on repair which I’m into DIY and have changed a starter before so once I get this part I will be changing the starter along with quite a few other things since have to remove so much! It currently won’t start, can’t jump start it either and battery is good and won’t work with a battery starter either. It’s been so cold lately and doing wood projects in garage has my garage tied up so can’t work in here really I will most likely be planning to do it in spring. Also, I have a 2016 v6 mustang I’m thinking of mods for once I can afford to. I do want to get a throttle body spacer, oil catch can, I would love love love to get the Borla Atak exhaust as well!!
