AC Clutch & Radiator fan

The AC clutch and radiator fan both engage for a second and then disengage simultaneously. If I disconnect the AC clutch wires the fan stays on with no trouble, however as soon as I reconnect the AC clutch wires it disengages and goes back to both engaging for about a second and then disengaging for about 5 seconds, engaging for one, off for 5 etc. Any ideas?.
