Personally I don't think the single cam motors are worth upgrading, you can consider dropping in a twin cam motor 6G71 without turbos, or a 6G75 bit trickier to drop in but should be to hard all sorts of info for the 6g75 swap is all over the web. But for a tighter budget you can go to autozone and get an adapter plate for you MAF that will let you replace your airbox with a cone filter. the plate costs like 12 bucks plus youl need the cone filter anywhere from 25 on up. check out www.3sx.com they have all sorts of upgrades for 3ks and stealths for turbo and non turbo, front wheel or all wheel drive. If im not mistaken you can set the twin cam heads from a 6g71 block and bolt em on to your block but youl need the computer from a twin cam ES or a SL 3k. With those installed you can easily upgrade cams and add turbos and keep it FWD if you want just beast up the tranny if you start adding real power. Good luck man hope I've been of some help.
EDIT- I meant 6G74 not 6G75, its the motor typically found in monteros

Dude, the 6G72 is the 3.0 twin cam, and the 6G74 is the 3.5 twin cam. Either would be an upgrade for him. But I would save my money and buy a TT. Thats the only way to go. The all wheel drive is worth it!
