I just got a 1987 mazda 626 with 56thou miles they told me the distributors no good how can I check it to see if it is bad.

You would either have to spin the engine over by hand to see if the shaft (rotor) spins or pull the distributor out of the engine. The problem with just saying "the distributor is bad" is that it doesn't tell you what is bad about it. It could be the electronics is no longer good in the distributor or the shaft bearings are to loose, or the shaft is bent, or the timing gears that interact with the cam are worn, or the cam gears are worn, or the pin at the bottom of the distributor could have sheared off causing an issue.
