2003 Ford Ranger shifting issues

Asked by Keith Feb 22, 2018 at 09:03 PM about the 2003 Ford Ranger 4 Dr Edge 4WD Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger 4x4 Automotive. Sometimes
and only sometimes I have a issue with it going from first
to second only when I initially start driving it for the day. To
fix it while driving I have to move it to neutral then back
into drive and it shifts into 2nd. It happens more often
when it is cold. Hoping it’s not the transmission and
maybe something related.

not serious , if anything the speed sensor or governor may be a little sluggish , and some pcm,s will not allow a shift till a certain temperature is obtained , and that comes from the temp sensor ( IAT) intake air temperature
