Mazda CX5 wont start
Asked by anandgupta02 Jan 09, 2022 at 04:01 PM about the 2014 Mazda CX-5 Touring
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I tried starting the car and it just wont start. Jump start also didnt help, so its
not a battery issue (battery is 1 year old). I believe it may be an alternator or
starter issue. Any thoughts? What can I expect as the cost of repairs. The
dealer also recommended tensioner and belt change about a month back but
said its not urgent. Should I get that changed as well. Any feedback is much
appreciated.
Thank you

so it doesn't even turn over ( crank ) ? Is there any noise at all from the starter ? If the head lights are nice and bright then I guess the batt. is good , Are the terminals tight ? See if there's a starter relay , does [ it ] click when you hit the key ? Could very well be the starter , see if power is getting to the solenoid when you hit the key . You may have to nearly remove it anyways so maybe just replace it .

Thanks for your response. It does crank but then immediately idles. Getting it towed to a shop to get it checked out.

The problem was diagnosed to be a faulty air flow sensor. Cost to replace was $215 for parts and $170 for labor.
