Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Service airbag light started  popping on this
morning. Found out it's not covered under warranty
and the dealer charges $149 for diagnostic.  First,
why do I have to pay for anything dealing with the
airbag? Secondly, what is the normal price to fix
this issue at dealer? Lastly, is there another place
to take my car to get it fixed that would know how
to deal with this issue? Thank you

Hello, warranties are usually for the first 2years. Did you mean extended warranty? If so, refer back to your warranty paperwork. Also check and see if there is an open recall on it. Did you check the history before purchasing? Usually you get it fixed at the dealership you brought it from or another Chevy dealer.

I meant bumper to bumper warranty and I called GM and they said there were no recalls on it. I thought I did a thorough enough research, but I didn't think to check on the airbag. In my opinion, airbags should be considered a manufacture defect and fixed immediately and for free. Thank you for the response

Be careful because the airbag light in my 2014 Chevy Impala came on. It was in the evening so I couldn’t have it looked at. On the way home the driver’s airbag deployed on its own causing an accident & totaling my car out! GM won’t take responsibility for it and I lost a lot of money on this! Make GM liable for it!
