2014 Ford Fiesta Overheating

My fiesta has randomly overheated a couple times
now. The engine hot light comes on and the AC
stops blowing hot air. Every time it has happened
we've shut the car off for a while and then
everything is fine when we turn it back on an hour
later. We are taking a road trip in a couple days and
worried about making the trip. Hopefully having it
looked at tommorow. The mechanic thought it
might be the engine fan when we verbally described
it. My dad thinks it's the thermostat. Any thoughts
or suggestions?

Try bleeding air from system like this remove cap from overflow tank fill with antifreeze to full mark leave cap off and start vehicle and let idle you will notice level in tank start to rise this is normal once thermostat starts to open level in tank will drop add more antifreeze to full mark then put cap back on.
This sounds like it could be the engine fan. Pop the hood, turn on your car, then turn on the AC to see if the engine fan is working. DO NOT go on a road trip if your engine is consistently overheating! You're running a huge risk by doing so.

Hi, my 2011 ford fiesta 1.6 she hatchback overheated and my head gasket blew. I had it fixed, the mechanic told me the thermostat is bad so he took it off completely without replacing it. Now after all the works he did on the car, Immediately I start the car, I see coolant in the expansion tank begins to rise and in ten minutes start pouring out. What's happening to my car, is it the thermostat he took off that's bringing all these problems?
Had that happened to me too in the ecaxt same order
