Issues starting my 2014 Kia Sorento LX AWD with the 4 cylinder 2.4L engine.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2014 Kia Sorento LX AWD with the 4 cylinder 2.4L engine.

I never had trouble starting it and the last few days it cranks and turns and
after multiple times it starts. but if i stop it it can take multiple times to try to
start again. from online it says either the starter or gas filter (built in the fuel
pump inside the gas tank). Can anybody tell me what to do and how to test
to see what it actually is? and please no smart ass comment of saying bring
it to a shop. i ain't rich. since shops charge minimum of $150 once the they
touch your vehicle

If you can get it to Auto Zone or maybe another with the diagnostic tools they can check it for free

If once you do get it started, does the check engine light come on and either stay on or flash? If it does then someplace like Autozone can pull the codes and you can do the diagnostics from there. However I do agree with you about the possibility of the fuel pressure and flow being low and you do need special tools for that diagnostic porcedure. The bad part is if it is the pump it could leave you walking and then a tow bill to a shop for repairs.

G A thank you, would an OBD2 tester show codes of what it may be or would i need a bigger testing unit to determine? And once started i do not remember seeing the check engine light on at all.

A cheap scan tool will only read existing codes(check engine light on) and might read memory codes but to do live data scanning you need a more expensive one. You can spend as much as 6000 USD on scan tools so only you can determine just how much you want to do with the scanner.
