Why has my gas mileage dropped

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My 2013 Ram Cargo Van w/3.6 engine highway mileage has dropped from
28mpg to 18mpg. It has 80,000 miles on the odometer. Could it be something
simple like a filter replacement or something else?

Doubt that it is anything that simple. You should change the air filter if it has been a while but I would recommend checking the computer for any codes. You can go to AutoZone or some other auto parts stores and have the codes read for free. You likely have a bad sensor.

Yes it could be something as simple as a air or fuel filter but also add some fuel injector cleaner to gas tank and if you use the low octane fuel all the time try using the middle or high test gas every now and then.
Well at 80,000 miles the spark plug gap is probably way wider than spec call for !! A tune-up surely couldn't hurt which includes an air filter , Use the same type of spark plugs or equal to what Chrysler installed , I'm not a believer in the hype of Iridium , Platinum , diamond plugs for a daily driver , they just cost more . Having the codes pulled can't hurt , Probably going to show miss fire codes on at least 1 or 2 cylinders
I was getting really bad mpg on mine and had no check engine light on. So after replacing several things, I replaced the bank 1 sensor 1 02 sensor with a Denso 234-4545 sensor and it solved the problem!
