key in ignition stopped turning. worked for a few times, then totally stopped. replaced ignition switch..... and starter(I knew this was not it) '89 1500 GMC 8cyl. any thoughts?

Asked by Shadaone Mar 09, 2014 at 11:14 AM about the 1989 GMC Sierra 1500 C1500 Extended Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had a man come out and work on it all day.  Replaced ignition switch.  I knew the starter was not the problem, though he replaced it.  I feel it must be a sensor or something electrical...but, I am a lady and do not know these things.  I love the old pickup and would like to keep it.  Passed inspection last time and is otherwise great.

I'm not sure I understand the problem- does the key turn or not? did the new ignition switch fix the key turnin' problem? one thing that is obvious: the "man who came out and worked on it all day" didn't know what he was doin'- take it to a real mechanic, please-

Thanks to you who answered. Yes, NEW key turns but nothing happens. I will get it towed in to a shop. I appreciate your answers.
