back tires

Asked by Linda Feb 01, 2020 at 01:22 PM about the 2014 Ford Flex Limited AWD w/ Ecoboost

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have gone through two sets of back tires in 18 months. I am told it is because
the tires have to be high performance and they don't last long. The fronts are
fine. What is the answer?

Do you rotate the tires? Any funny wear patterns? How many miles per set?

Some vehicles need a 4 wheel alignment, not just a front end alignment. Hope that helps! Jim

Yes we rotate tires every oil change. We insisted on an alignment when the second set was put on. But here we are again. Wondering if the tires MUST be high performance.

Oh and we have put on 36000 miles in 18 months but each set had less than 20,000

Did you buy this vehicle brand new? If not it could have been in an accident and something else is going on. Perhaps everything wasn't repaired correctly after the accident. If buying high performance tires was the answer I'd think all four tires would be wearing out. For just the rears to be wearing there must be something else going on. Hope that helps! Jim

No I bought the vehicle used but did a history check and it shows no accidents. They are General G Max AS-05 tires put on by the Ford place.
