1985 F-150 Starting problem
I have a 1985 F-150 4wd 300 straight 6. I can
jump the truck although it takes a long time. I
have a brand new battery, brand new
alternator, brand new starter, and brand new
starter solenoid. No matter how long I let the
truck run after jumping, it doesn’t restart.
Without jumper cables connected, there is
low power (dim brake indicator light) and no
click. When cables are attached, I get full
power and a rapid clicking noise from the
selonoid until it sits for a while on the cables
and then it will finally crank. If I charge the
battery fully I still don’t generate enough
amps to even cause the rapid clicking let-
alone actually turning the truck over. The
wiring in the truck is kind of a mess with
various things disconnected, but that was
never an issue before now. Any help is
greatly appreciated as I love this truck.
