Hummmmmmmmm. Sounds like a problem I use to encounter when I owned vehicles manufacturered in the 50 and 60's. Usually a carburator rebuild would fix it. Today, even lawnmowers encounter the same problem. A twenve buck kit from the local lawnmower repair shop usually fixes the problem. Is the vehicle carburated?
Really sounds like a problem with the old style automatic choke on older vehicles.
Does the vehicle have an IAC motor? It open and closes the ports adjusting the idle. Could be a heat/electrical issue. I'm really more at home with vehicles built two generations ago. My hair was darker also.
