Ford 300 6cylinder 41 years of design refinement. This engine has a lot of torque very low in the powerband, I will say Bullet proof in terms of reliability used in so many Heavy duty Vehicles up until 1996.. the last year of production. I have driven a f350 300 6 cyl 4 speed flatbed Dual rear wheel, loaded with 2.5 tons at steady state mileage was over 20 I recall that quite clearly! that engine was stronger than the 5.0V8!
Is the I6 the same as a 8 cylinder engine? I am looking at a 4.9l 8 cylinder engine. I am really confused.

The 4.9 (Metric) 6 cylinder also called the 300 (English) cubic inch 6 cylinder is the engine in the f150.. It is NOT the 8 cylinder 5.0 (Metric) or 302 (English) cubic inch engine. also the 6 cylinder is a straight line of cylinders in a row. A V8 has 2 banks of 4 cylinders at 90 degrees apart! each bank has 4 cylinders...configured in a V8....confused yet?
