Starter fuse keeps blowing

Asked by Joseph Feb 24, 2016 at 08:35 PM about the 1984 Ford F-250 XLT Extended Cab LB HD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 84 f250 6.9 diesel and I tried to start it
and heard a pop. The fuse blew for the starter, so I
put a new one in and tried to start it again. There
was another pop. After tho more fuses I decided to
open the hood and look for the problem. The worst
I seen was a bare spot on a fusible link I patched it
with some electrical tape and tried again. It blew
another fuse, so I tried hot wiring it from the
starter solenoid and it started fine. If you have any
ideas please let me know. Thanks!

No real easy answer here. You will need to trace out the wires going to your ignition switch, solenoid and starter.
