Where could oil be leaking?
Where is the oil leaking from when it is dripping off the bell housing? I changed the valve cover gaskets, I thought it was that
leaking because they were covered in oil in the rear and down over the spark plugs. I changed the oil and it was black, not
cloudy, so I know head gaskets should be fine and not leaking right? Or could it be the main seal leaking? It is a '89 F250 4X4 with
351W, followed by 4 speed standard with overdrive gear.
look inside the bell, if theres a ring of oil around the inside its probably the rear main seal leaking. if its dry inside the bell look at the top, the rear intake seal can leak above the bell. milky oil would indicate an internal head gasket coolant leak. are your spark plugs and wires dry now? if so its gotta be rear intake seal / PCV hose or grommet or rear main seal
Intake leaks are common with this engine. One indicator of a Rear Mail Seal leaking is that it only leaks when the engine is off. I had an oil filter with a pin-hole once.

I have the same issue on my 95ford f350 5.8 It looks like it leaks around the oil pump, on top, definitely in between the motor and trans I don’t know exactly what could be going on but I don’t want to fix something that isn’t the problem.
