87 f250 4x4 302

Asked by Sax57 Nov 02, 2016 at 01:35 PM about the 1987 Ford F-250 STD Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 87 idles fine but on the road it backfires and
stalls out like it is not getting any fuel.  I have put
new wires and plugs, new fuel pump plus the two
in the duel tanks, new gas filter. The ekg valve was
stuck but I put a vacuum pump on it and when it
went up to about 25 in vacuum it pop open now it
works good. Changed some vacuum lines  that
was bad still get codes 82 and 33. Plus can you
change the tab sensor or is there another solution
on fixing my truck

I assume that you have a carburetor? There may be a fuel filter at the inlet so check that but you may need to rebuild your carb. Also Check the ignition timing, the backfiring indicates that it is probably off.

Sorry for not telling you it is fuel injected and the timing check out ok too. So what else could it be.
