1989 ford ranger with miss

1989 ford ranger has a constant miss when started and at stops. plugs have been changed twice and several and car repair has tried several times.
2.9 liter engine and 2 wheel drive

The basics for problems at idle, check for a leak, fuel--egr--vacuum. Yeah, a vacuum leak might be hard to find? Check and clean anything that has to do with idle air system. Maf sensor, where applicable, unplug it, start the vehicle, see if it helps? Have you tried cylinder balance test? You kill the cylinders one at a time, engine idling, I usually kill spark. If you kill a cylinder that has no effect on the idle rpms, that cylinder is dead, is it spark--fuel--compression? I doubt I could find anything that a shop couldn't.
