Many years ago a friend of mine put a 460 Ford engine in a mid 80s model Ranger. It took lots of fabrication such as custom radiator support panel and removing the inner fender panels. A 4.6 Cobra engine is as wide (at the heads) or wider than a 460. I would think it would be a very tough job to get it done.

Well it appears this swap is much more common than I thought. The Ranger Station is full of good info or do a google search for "4.6 dohc Ford Ranger".
