1985 chevy S10 front suspension

Asked by Ian May 09, 2021 at 06:14 PM about the 1985 Chevrolet S-10 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I felt like my 1985 4x4 Chevy S10 was riding a bit low on the front end so I
went to check the torsion keys. The torsion keys are turned exact opposite of
each other(one bolt is really far out and one is all the way in). My passenger
side tire got replaced with my spare at the same time because its wearing
hard to the outside. I checked the control arm bushings and they seem fine.
My mechanical advisor says that it sounds like my torsion bar is worn out,
but the truck has 90k miles. I believe him but I can't find anywhere to buy
torsion bars to replace my old ones. Any advice is welcome

Try Ebay. I would also go to a NAPA store and ask them to do a search. You may have to buy used parts if they are not available new. I also believe there are coil spring conversion kits.

It may possible someone removed the torsion bars and installed them incorrectly. Maybe the one bar was indexed wrong. I would ask a shop that does a lot of front end work to look at it.
