Fuel pump

Asked by Willkim Mar 12, 2018 at 02:02 PM about the 1987 Chevrolet S-10 Extended Cab RWD

I took line loose from in side of fuel
filter and turned key on ..it pumped for
couple seconds and shut off and didn't
come back on till shut key back off and
turned on again and it did same thing.
Is this normal I thought should have
kept pumping

It only primes the system until it sees the engine running or you have the key in the crank position
