Trailer plugs have given a lot of problems in the past. One day someone will build one that actually works a long time. Do you have power on the wire coming to the lights? If you can use or have a voltmeter, check to see if there is "juice" to the lights. Next would be to disconnect the trailer plug. Check all the ground wires for good solid clean connections. If that does not fix it, respond back. Some time the plug wire connections in the trailer hitch plug short out.
