i have a 1982 el camino i replaced the engine according to the vin number the buick 231 is the only engine that will go in it what is compatible amd has anyone else have same one or same issue

ok i have a friend who claims to have a all original
82 el camino about 3 yrs ago she had the motor
replaced according to the vin it came with a buick
231 amd not the 305 or 350 is that true or does
she have an inbred el camino?

True the El Camino came with that boat anchor engine. They were a big disappointment even when new.

You might want to check with a junk yard to make sure but I'm pretty sure a small block 350 will drop in without problems, the 305 or 307 will fit as well but remember the old adage "There's no replacement for displacement" just sayin. lol
thought so thanks again i new it the car is a friend of mines and she wants to keep it all original i didnt think chevy would have done such a thing with a crap ass motor no horse power junk
Chevrolet did put the Buick 231 v6 in the El Camino for sales in California to meet emission requirements. I have just replaced my Buick 231 with a BluePrint 383” V8. It is an easy conversion since Chevrolet has all the parts already engineered for their V8 models.
