Not sure if your engine is an overhead valve or overhead cam engine, but the procedures are different and involved for both types of engine. Suggest purchasing a Haynes manual which will give procedure for valve lash adjustment along with the proper specs to let you know what it should measure out to.

if its the 8 valve motor the ehxaust valves set at 0.12 thou and the intakes are 0.8 thou......not too sure about the 16 valve engine though it is also an ohc engine .
