I believe it is a Traction Control feature that was an option on the Deluxe Taurus's. You are to click it on when driving conditions are snowy or slippery. When your speed sensors (ABS) in the front wheels detect a spinning wheel, it will gently apply some braking to that wheel only so the power transfers through the transaxle to the other wheel that has more traction. Sorta like electronic Posi-Traction. It also reduces engine power for the second or two. My 2004 Taurus SEL didn't get this $2000 option but it worked well in my 1996 Pontiac Grand AM. I think it turns itself off every time you turn the engine off. This sudden "reduced power" during wheel spin can surprise you when trying to accelerate into traffic coming fast so watch if it's On.

Thanks so much for answering. So this is a good car? My former husband leased it, and just gave it to me. Thank you again.

I've had my 2004 Taurus SEL for fourteen years and over 100,000 miles. I am a perfectionist with the maintenance and it has been the best, fastest, most trouble free car I ever owned. I should have bought two. People tell me the tranny is it's weak point but with proper care, it feels like it will run forever. Good luck with yours too.

Thank you. I'm lucky my former husband give me this one. Now I wish he'd get my '67 MGB- GT that he traded.
