my battery light is on

My friend was gonna replace my power steering pump and couldnt get the pulley off so
when I got my car back the battery light was on I broke down a few min later nothing on
the dash was working before it broke down & it was jerking before it stopped so I took it
to auto parts store after I had it jumped they said it was the altenator my friend put it on
right there and the same thing happened the guy tested it again and said it was putting
off low volts sothey got me another altenator abrand new one not refurbished and sure
enough same thing happened the battery light came back on and it died out about a min
later after having it running do you have any idea what could of happened, it wasn't doing
any of this before he took it. Thank you for any help

Check the alternator belt routing. If belt not installed correctly this can happen. Also make sure the battery cables are tight and clean. M

They said the belt was fine do you think he may of shorted something out when he tried to replace my power steering pump?

Possibly. But Sure sounds like the belt may have installed incorrectly. If belt not routed the proper way around the pullies this issue can happen. Belt routing should be noted under the hood. I would double check that first.

And if they unhooked the battery to do the work (which they should have) double check that the cables are tight. Loose cables can also cause this

Thank you for your help : ), we did check the cables and the belt was replaced about a year ago and has not gave me any issues.
