Sounds like the thermostat needs to be changed. This controls the engine temperature that heats up the heater core, so you get heat inside the car.

Hello, I have a 2001 Ford Taurus Wagon and it is having some issues. It starts, however, the idle is jumpy and thr RPM's surge and it sputters and stumbles and back fires at times while driving, and sometimes the gas peddle jumps under my foot.
