2003 Ford Taurus SES Misfire only at idle

Asked by Newt327 Mar 21, 2010 at 07:31 PM about the 2003 Ford Taurus SES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2003 Ford Taurus SES with the 24 Valve engine.  It started misfiring about a month ago and the trouble code reads cylinder #3 misfire detected.  It only misfires while idling, under acceleration there is no loss of power at all.  Driving on the highway the misfire is never felt, but when stopped at a traffic light for example you can feel it misfire, but it is still random, not constant.

I have changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, and took in to have the fuel system cleaned but still it misfires when idling.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks.

Try swapping injectors with another cylinder. If code follows you've found your culprit. If not, check wiring to that injector.
