Ford Explorer 2014, 6,000 miles, rumble strip feeling randomly above 40mph

Asked by Allison Oct 18, 2015 at 04:55 PM about the 2014 Ford Explorer XLT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi
I just purchased a 2014 Ford Explorer XLT, 6,000 miles.  I'm getting that
rumble strip feeling randomly above 40mph.  It seems to happen mostly when
I'm not pushing the gas.  It seems to smooth out a bit when I have my foot on
the pedal.

could be a few things .. bent or bad axle scalloped tire or tires bad u joints hard to say without driving it. Take back to the dealer you bought it from, law states that it is still under the warranty.

Thanks Mark - update - we just took it back out. There's a vibration felt under the floor board that seems to be there the whole time but more noticeable the faster you go. As the car naturally slows down, so does the vibration. The issue is that I live in a foreign country. This car was imported and Ford does not accept the warranty in this country. So just trying to minimize my costs here. Thanks again.

Hi - here's an update...took the car in the rotate tires, balance, check air. The sound has diminished quite a bit but the rumble or vibration is still there. Whether I'm driving 10mph or 60mph, I can see the passenger seat vibrating as well at a constant rate. I think it actually smooths out over 60 but will need to check that again. A friend says this car doesn't have U-joints. Would that be correct? I do not believe it's transmission. I'm in a foreign country (Panama) so have to rely on local mechanics here. Any additional ideas would be helpful.

As far as I know, 2014 Explorer is rear wheel drive and therefore has U-Joints. If it is front wheel drive (????) it would have CV-Joints. Make sure that none of your tires have separated. That could also cause your problem.

Thank you - I'm going to have the tires looked at this morning for separation...

2014 explorer is awd had no u joints it has velocity joints just took mine out today mechanics says rumble strip affect is bend driveshaft I have one coming this week
