Anyone know what this is?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just bought a 2014 Ford escape and noticed this was
broken. Just curious what it was and if it's important,
seems to be running normal

As long as it doesn't pull apart you should be O.K. There's usually a back up clip ie. There's 2 clips holding it together .

I looks like it is part of your PCV system. Crankcase is vented and that tube goes into air intake tube so that all air going into motor is metered.

If you just bought it , was it from a dealer? Take it back and have them source a new part and install it. Depending on how long ago you bought it, you might still have some recourse and or a warranty. But if the vehicle is running fine and no Service or check engine light is on. Then I'd have it fixed the next time you have the car in for service.
