Would this happen to be an Ecoboost powered Escape? This code is typically caused by the Engine Control Module (ECM) detecting an overboost condition that is by at least 4psi and lasts for at least 5 seconds. You'll want to get that one to the dealer ASAP as it is putting additional stress on your motor to drive it in that condition.

Just had similar code P0234 showing up on my 2014 Ford Escape Ecoboost. I vacuumed and cleaned all the spruce needles that had accumulated in the 2 vent screens under hood near windshield - then I used my OBD code reader to clear the check engine light. It's not been almost 2 weeks and no recurrence of check engine light so I'm considering this problem solved. OBD code reader has saved me a ton of money instead of taking to dealership if easy fix.
