P1507 (idle control system malfunction)

Asked by MazdaMan16 Jul 04, 2014 at 08:57 PM about the 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 02 wrx gave me the dreaded CEL
last night. I had the code checked
and it came up p1507 (idle control
system malfunction). The car drives
fine, but is slightly choppy in idle.
Barely noticeable as it gets warm but
right as you start it, you can tell. Also
when your letting out the clutch
super slow in first the rpms are also a
little jumpy. I've read up online and
it's recommended that I clean the
idle air control valve or replace it.
Would cleaning it really well (as they
tend to get gunked up) fix the
problem the same as replacing the
$300 part?

Cleaning sometimes helps but not always. I would try cleaning it you might get lucky and it work for you. These parts tend to be expensive. Avoid buying the cheap ones you will find online. Have tried several that say good as oem but they are not.
