Subaru wrx muffler?

Asked by ChicagoRumbleWRX Sep 18, 2016 at 03:05 AM about the 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX Base

Question type: Car Customization

I just bought a 2004 wrx  and I love the car and
want to get a little more sound out of it. Because
I'm younger the insurance bills are killing me so I'm
unable to afford a real exhaust system. For the time
being however I do want to get something out of it
so my buddy recommended me a $30 knockoff
muffler from eBay he told me he put one on his STI
and it sounds really nice. Now I was going to do the
same but I don't want to buy it install it and then
hate the sound so should I hold off or go for it?
Thanks

You do not want to sacrifice performance and the stock set up is pretty good and a real exhaust system needs to be tuned in at a performance shop in the computer which is 3 times the exhaust system cost and if its not done right you loose performance and reliability. I would leave it all stock and its reliability will reward you for many years instead of a few years trust me.

ah I see... even if I were to connect just a new muffler instead of a full exhaust i assume it'd probably sound awful so I won't go for it. Anyway thanks for the advice I'm still just getting into the car scene so I'm still pretty green on a lot of this stuff So i appreciate it. Thanks again

I have a 2 friends with a WRX's and one decided to have a exhaust & intake and computer tune(about $4500) and some other odds & ends done to it and he could not beat my other friends WRX and in 2 years he could not get it run right and sold it dirt cheap non running, and the other friends is all stock and is running fine still and that was about 5-6 years ago.
