Why is my 2004 Ford Crown Victorian stuck in park?

Are you parked on a hill ? Sometimes if you fail to set the parking brake before putting the car in park, the parking pawl (an internal part in the transmission) gets in a bind and it's very difficult to get it out of park. You could get someone to rock the car back and forth while you try to shift it out of park; it should go. I've done that a couple of times myself.
